Bhopal/Jabalpur: The state government told a division bench of MP high court headed by the acting chief justice Vivek Rusia that a Bill will be introduced in the state assembly to do away with the prerequisite of having at least 10 years of experience as professor in a government medical college to become eligible for appointment as vice chancellor of MP Medical Science University.
Once passed by the House, the preceding policy for appointment of vice chancellor of the medical university will be restored. Following this, the court taking the state government’s reply on record asked it for a detailed reply.
Prof Pankaj Kamal Dharde of Sukhsagar Medical College, Jabalpur, in a petition challenged the MP Medical Science University (amendment) Bill, 2023, providing that experience of 10 years as professor in a government medical college will be a must to become vice chancellor of the university.
Describing the rule as ‘arbitrary and discriminatory’, the petitioner said that it would jeopardise the opportunity for professors working in private medical colleges to become the vice-chancellor of the medical university.
