Nagpur: The state govt will issue uniform guidelines for autonomous colleges before Aug 15 to bring greater transparency, consistency and administrative clarity to their functioning.
Chairing a review meeting in Mumbai, higher and technical education minister Chandrakant Patil directed the Maharashtra State Council for Educational Research and Training (MSCERT) to prepare and notify the guidelines based on the University Grants Commission’s (UGC) 2023 regulations for autonomous colleges.
The decision follows discussions on issues raised by autonomous colleges, including fee structures, university approvals for various charges, affiliation fees, and existing and proposed academic programmes.
Patil said Maharashtra has 151 autonomous colleges under the Higher Education Department, all of which have been implementing the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 since the 2023-24 academic year.
Issues concerning autonomous colleges were discussed during the meeting of vice-chancellors and pro-vice-chancellors of all public universities at the Maharashtra State Faculty Development Academy, Pune.
