New Delhi: Education is expected to dominate Delhi govt’s upcoming budget, with officials indicating that several initiatives to strengthen the public school system and upgrade infrastructure are likely to be announced this month.
The budget—expected to be presented in Delhi Assembly in the last week of March—is likely to outline measures aimed at expanding access to quality education and modernising classrooms across the capital.
“The budget is likely to announce more CM Shri Schools, construction of smart classrooms and major upgrades to existing infrastructure,” an official said, adding, the initiative aims to transform govt schools into model institutions equipped with modern facilities.
Currently, around 75 CM Shri Schools have been developed in Delhi. These schools provide technologically advanced, skill-based learning in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. Facilities include smart classrooms, digital libraries, ICT and computer labs, and career counselling support to improve learning outcomes and bring govt schools on par with private ones.
The budget may also include plans to build additional smart classrooms and upgrade existing ones to improve the learning environment and integrate modern educational resources.
Technology integration is expected to form a core part of the education push. Delhi govt may expand its plan to convert thousands of classrooms into AI-enabled smart rooms with interactive boards, robotics labs and digital learning tools. Over 7,000 classrooms are expected to be upgraded in the first phase, with a long-term plan to modernise thousands more.
Officials said the reforms aim to make the govt school system more “future-ready”, combining infrastructure upgrades with technology-driven and skills-focused learning. “The emphasis may be on digital education, career guidance and skill development to prepare students for higher studies, employment and entrepreneurship,” another official said.
Last year, Delhi govt presented a Rs 1 lakh crore budget, allocating Rs 1,000 crore for education. Officials said the upcoming budget is likely to build on these investments to further strengthen the city’s education system.
