Patna: Bihar’s department of science, technology and technical education (DSTTE) and Google LLC signed a Statement of Intent (SoI) to collaborate on AI enablement and digital infrastructure, aiming to strengthen digital transformation and AI-enabled teaching capabilities across the state’s education sector.
The agreement is intended to promote AI literacy and capacity building among teachers in Bihar while creating a digital ecosystem for the effective use of modern digital and AI technologies in classroom teaching and learning. Under the SOI, Google has proposed training for teachers in Hindi and English through the Google AI Educator Series, with content contextualised to local needs.
DSTTE secretary Himanshu Sharma, director Manoranjan Kumar and joint director Manjit Kumar were present at the signing event. Google was represented by Sanjay Jain, India head, Google for Education; Neeti Verma of Google for Education; and Divyam, partner to Google for Education, East India, and other officials.
Officials said the initiative will familiarise teachers with the safe and effective use of Google AI tools, including Gemini and NotebookLM. It will encourage the use of AI in lesson planning, pedagogy and administrative work, and build teachers’ capacity to use AI as a teaching aid and tutor rather than simply as a tool for generating direct answers.
Sharma said connecting Bihar’s teachers with emerging AI and digital technologies was an important step towards making the state’s education system future-ready.
