Chennai: Higher education minister P Viswanathan announced that TN govt will recruit 6,000 assistant professors for govt arts and science colleges, engineering colleges and polytechnic colleges in three phases.

Replying to the debate on demand for grants for higher education, he also announced upgradation of Teachers Recruitment Board to conduct recruitment for higher educational institutions.

The minister also announced promotion for faculty members working in govt, govt-aided arts and science colleges and polytechnic colleges. He announced a salary increase from 30,000 to 35,000 for 8,000 guest lecturers in govt colleges and 25,000 to 30,000 for guest lecturers working in polytechnic colleges.

Viswanathan also announced a new education guarantee scheme to ensure collateral-free education loans up to 20 lakh to students. tnn
