Bhubaneswar: Every college in the state will get at least one functional toilet for girl students. The higher education department recently approached the works department to take up construction of one functional toilet for girls in all colleges following complaints of defunct and unusable toilets on several campuses.
The decision was taken to ensure basic sanitation facilities for female students in higher education institutions.
There are 660 aided colleges, 66 govt colleges, and 34 autonomous colleges, totalling 760 across the state. For effective, timely, and uniform implementation of the initiative, the higher education department has proposed adopting a standardised design and estimate for construction of toilets across all categories of colleges. The department also planned construction of disability-friendly toilets in all colleges and universities.
