General education minister V Sivankutty said on Monday that a subject minimum would be introduced for the SSLC examination in 2027. Students are supposed to achieve a minimum of 30% marks in individual subjects.
The subject minimum, which had been in place for a long time in the past, was reintroduced for classes V to IX following a sharp decline in academic standards in state syllabus schools in Kerala.
The distribution of newly introduced Braille textbooks for the second year of higher secondary has been completed, the minister said. A total of six crore textbooks across 593 titles have been distributed for classes I to X.
“Under the STARS project, state-of-the-art model autism complexes are being established in 14 districts, with Rs 2.5 crore allocated for each autism centre,” Sivankutty said.
The half-yearly exams for classes I to X began on Monday and will conclude on Dec 23. The higher secondary half-yearly exams also began on Monday. The Christmas break has been extended to 12 days this year, compared to the usual nine days.
CM to inaugurate labour conclave on Friday
The state govt is organizing ‘Labour Conclave 2025′ against the reforms introduced by the Centre in the labour codes. The conclave will be held on Dec 19 in Thiruvananthapuram. Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the conclave.
Sivankutty said labour ministers from other states would also participate in the conclave. Ministers from Punjab, Tamil Nadu and Jharkhand are expected to participate in the conclave. Former Supreme Court judges, trade union leaders and academics will also participate, he added.
