Panjab University has already implemented UGC Regulations 2018 for institutions under its jurisdiction and granted promotions under the Career Advancement Scheme

Chandigarh: The Chandigarh Aided Colleges Teachers’ Association (CACTA) has submitted a representation to the ministry of education seeking the implementation of UGC Regulations 2018 and an increase in the retirement age of teachers in aided colleges from 60 to 65 years.

The association said the request was also marked to the Union home minister. In its communication, the body stated aided colleges in Chandigarh receive 95% grant-in-aid from the Centre through the Chandigarh administration and, therefore, should fall under norms applicable to centrally funded higher education institutions.

According to the association, Panjab University has already implemented UGC Regulations 2018 for institutions under its jurisdiction and granted promotions under the Career Advancement Scheme. However, aided colleges in Chandigarh continue to follow previous guidelines, resulting in disparities in service conditions and retirement norms.

The association argued that the reference to Punjab govt consent on retirement policies does not apply to Chandigarh’s aided colleges, as they do not fall under Punjab’s administrative framework.

It requested the ministry of education to issue a notification implementing the regulations in full and revising the age of superannuation to 65 years. The association said the delay has created uncertainty among faculty and sought early intervention.
